Elmar Willebrand, by profession a lawyer, joined Asklepios Clinics in October 1993 as head of investments, financing and acquisitions before becoming Group CEO in 1998. During 15 years of his tenure Asklepios grew from 18 facilities with €300 million in sales to over 100 facilities with €2.4 billion in sales and 35 000 employees. Amongst over 90 clinic acquisitions he was in charge of the LBK‑Hamburg transaction, with €750 million the largest European hospital acquisition at that time. In 2008 he founded the AccuMeda Group, which is active in clinic acquisition, turn‑around management, consulting and related investments. He has served as chairman and member of various supervisory boards. His opinion is quoted in leading newspapers.
